My First Business Trip

My very first business trip  was January 2018 when I was 12 years old, doing a catering job in Washington DC.  Some people ask “how did I get this job?”.

I'll tell you right now.

I did 1 catering job before this trip and one of the guests was hosting a non-profit board retreat in Washington DC. She was so amazed how zen like I was and thought I could take a hard challenge, a fine dining dinner for 12 people.

My mom and I arrived in DC on Thursday January 4th, 2018  in 9 degrees Fahrenheit with 2 feet of snow. When we got to the hotel we were catching up to the time zone watching Food Network Etc.  Friday came and the job was on Saturday.  We had to shop for the whole day.  We were partially nervous about  shopping in a different state. We were nervous because we didn't know if the stores we're going to have specific foods like avocados that are normally grown in California not Virginia.  The stores we went to were Costco and Harris Teeter.  Harris Teeter was a very nice grocery store and very clean. Saturday came I was very nervous because it was the day of the job.  I started prepping from 12 p.m. and didn't  stop cooking until 9:30 p.m. Was I tired?  the answer is YES!  The dinner was a hit!  Everyone loved every course!

It was a challenge because I had 2 vegetarians that didn't eat garlic or onion, one gluten free, and one vegetarian that could eat garlic and onion, then 8 with no restrictions.   I created a delicious menu and I am very happy with how it all turned out!  Now I am ready for my next job! Who wants to hire me!

But was it worth it to fly five and a half hours from San Diego, California to Washington, DC just to cook one dinner? ABSOLUTELY.
